Talking about the "Academy" would take very long. We will confine ourselves to the most significant stages this school was directly involved in from 1970 to this day in order to better become acquainted with it.

The Academy is founded on September 22, 1970 in S. Lazzaro di Savena (Bologna) by Master Dan Sita, who is also the pioneer of Wushu in Italy.

The Academy remains in San Lazzaro from 1970 to 1991. On November 6 of that same year the new headquarters is opened in Pianoro (Bologna), where it still is. The opening occurs in the presence of an official delegation of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Italy, led by its 1st Councillor for Culture Dr. Li Guoqing.

Several civil and military authorities also participate in the ceremony. The extraordinary participation of RAI (Italian Radio and TV) on that occasion is worth mentioning.

The Presidents who succeed to lead this great school from 1970 to 2004 are in chronological order: Libero Bacchilega, Bruno Bezzi, Rodolfo Valentini, Antonello Merendi, Giuseppe Falconi and Giovanni Mattarelli.

On January 29, 1979 the athletes of the Academy win the European Cup against France in Catania.

On October 29, 1983 the F.I.WUSHU is founded in San Lazzaro at the Academy headquarters'.

An official delegation of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Italy led by Dr. Li Guoqing, at the time Secretary, takes part in the ceremony as a supervisor and founding member.

From November 18 to December 7, 1984 the Chinese Wushu national team, accompanied by all the directors of the Chinese Wushu Association (C.W.A.), based in Beijing, visits the Academy. The delegation is led by Dr. Zhao Shuengjin, at the time Secretary General of the C.W.A.

On November 15, 1985 under the aegis of the Italian Wushu National Academy the European Wushu Federation is founded in Castel San Pietro Terme (Bologna).
On that occasion 12 European countries plus China are present. China appears as a guest country and as a supervisor of the foundation of this new European federation with an official delegation of the Chinese Wushu Association led by Dr. Zhao Shuengjin and Prof. Huan Hongxian.

Also an official delegation of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Italy - led by His Worship Dr. Lin Zhong, its plenipotentiary Ambassador - participates in the foundation ceremony.
On May 7, 1988 the Wushu Italian Association and the Wushu National College are founded at the Bologna press club. These organisations are heartily longed for by Master Dan Sita, who is also their founder. The foundation occurs with the support of the Italian Wushu National Academy and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Italy, too, led by the 1st Councillor for Culture Dr. Wang Yao.

In 1989 Prof. Xu Cai, the President of the International Wushu Federation, visits the Academy together with Chinese directors and athletes of the Chinese national team.

On June 1st, 1994 a protocol about the outward twinning is signed in Wudang Shan (China) between the Zhé Xiao temple ("temple of the Taoist fighting monks") and the Academy. Master Dan Sita attends the ceremony as the Academy founder and representative for Italy, whereas on the Chinese side His Worship Wang Guangdé, worldwide supreme head of Taoism, and Master Yu Xuendé, the head of the Taoist fighting monks, are present.

On November 29, 1997 His Worship Wang Guangdé and Master Yu Xuendé, accompanied by a few directors of the Chinese Wushu Association in Beijing, go to the Academy in Bologna in order to complete the twinning procedure - begun in June 1994 in China - by signing the return twinning between Wudang and the Academy.

In order to seal and make the twinning official, also an official delegation of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Italy is present and led by the 1st Councillor for Culture Dr. Sun Yi. Patroness of the ceremony is Countess Maria Teresa Maschio.

On Mach 27, 2004 on the occasion of the 34th foundation anniversary of the Academy, the twinning with the famous St-Petersburg Sporting Wushu Federation (Russia) takes place in Pianoro.

Thanks to its athletes, this federation has played a leading role in several international modern Wushu competitions.
